Recreational runs

Alongside the race categories, most events also offer recreational runs. No licence needed: a day membership or regular entry is sufficient.

Forms in practice include: pair run, group run, professional run (e.g. police), individual recreational. Distance: often from ~4 km. Obstacles are the same or lighter than the race categories; the emphasis is on basic techniques like the foot clamp and monkey hang.

Advice for beginners: start with a shorter recreational distance to get to know the course before choosing a race category.

Recreational run types come from organisers: there is no fixed SBN classification.

Qualifying for a licence

For an adult race licence (KSR/MSR/LSR), 6 qualification points are needed within a maximum of 2 consecutive seasons. Points are earned at designated qualification runs: with a retained wristband 1–3 points (depending on distance), doubled for top-5 men or top-3 women. BSR has a separate entry route. JSR from age 10: no qualification threshold.
